Stories Behind The Great Hymns

TEACHER: Jerry High
LOCATION: West 2
DESCRIPTION: This course will take some of our favorite hymns and discover the story behind them. We will explore what society was like when the hymn was written, the circumstances that inspired the author, and the prevailing political situation that added “color” to the hymn. We will also discover when the hymn was written and distributed, and how it was passed down to present day, whether it was 10 years old or 10 centuries old. Each class will start with one of our church soloists singing the selected hymn for us to enjoy. We will then explore the story behind the hymn, and then close the class by singing the hymn. This should be an interesting journey!

Study On Grace

SPONSORED BY: Kingdom Seekers ABF
TEACHER: Bryant Raymond
LOCATION: West 8
DESCRIPTION: This study on grace by Max Lucado asks deep questions: Have you been changed by grace? Shaped by grace? Strengthened by grace? Emboldened by grace? Softened by grace? Snatched by the name of your neck and shaken to your senses by grace? God’s grace has a drenching about it. A wildness about it. A white-water, riptide, turn-you-upside-downness about it. Grace comes after you. It rewires you. From insecure to God secure. From regret riddled to better-because-of-it. From afraid to die to ready to fly. Grace is the voice that calls us to change and then gives us the power to pull it off.

Thinking Like A Christian - A Look At The Christian Worldview

TEACHER: Dave Smith
LOCATION: West 6
DESCRIPTION: Summit Ministry founder Dr. Noebel explains and strengthens our understanding of the Christian Worldview by examining it through the lens of ten categories. Christians today generally are not taught the importance of thinking in the biblical worldview categories and as a result we are having little influence in the larger society and do not understand how the categories are interrelated. We will understand how certain ideas comprise a worldview’s content and give it form. We will also be able to better defend our worldview to anyone who asks. Christians will fight the good fight of faith, finish the course, and keep the faith if they understand the truth of the Christian Worldview and know how to apply it daily.
